🛣️ Road Trip! Doris Day Mural & Dog Park

Since relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio, I have been determined to uncover fellow hometown heroes in the film industry. As a fan of Doris Day, who hails from this city, it became my goal to explore all aspects of her legacy here.

Cincinnati is known for its stunning art murals, and there are just two murals in the city that feature her image.

One is a small one in DT Pendleton, (which I still have to visit) and the other is part of a larger art display dedicated to Ohio music legends on W. 5th Street.

I also visited The Doris Day Dog Park in the expansive Mount Airy Forest. This fenced-in, off-leash dog park offers 2 acres of space for your furry friend to romp and play, all surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings.

Doris always held her Cincinnati roots close to her heart, expressing how much she missed the Queen City and cherishing the many beautiful memories she had there. After retiring from the entertainment industry, she dedicated her life to her true passion - animal welfare.

Despite facing challenges from a childhood auto accident that dashed her dreams of becoming a professional dancer, her loyal pup Tiny provided comfort and support. Doris Day went on to establish the Doris Day Animal Foundation and the Doris Day Animal League to advocate for and protect the rights of animals.

After visiting Red Skelton's & Clark Gable's Museums, in my opinion, Doris Day deserves her own separate large mural and a museum other than just a street or dog park.  It's a shame that she isn't more prominently honored in her hometown.  My next Doris Classic road trip will include a stop at her childhood home, the street named after her, The Netherland Hotel where she performed and was discovered in the 1940s and the Tavern owned by her Uncle where she worked and lived on the top floor.
